Classes for Novices/Beginners (Batch 1-3) – Building confident to join Chess competition at club, school level (rated below 1200 in chess.com: Class A)

Objectives: Acquire the general knowledge to approach the opening with confidence

During the course and through exercieses, children can increase observation skills, critical in moves, step by step on basic tactical patterns, and on the ways to make right decisions, evaluating good or bad moves. Understanding and memorising principles and basic moves and general laws and regulation when playing chess with professional style. Children can be more confident on moves, thinking carefully and deeply. Then, setting their own objectives, goals and applying in real life with basic exercises in real life.

At this point children can play a game with friends, and we will record the game by chess score sheet with analysis and evaluation, and let children learn practical good and bad moves in real games with discussion and presentation in front of class. Children can learn more presentation skills, increasing confidence level, debating through chess lessons, and ways to persuade others by reasoning approaches.

We keep children exploring the new ideas in chess, not focusing on opening, middle or ending at this moments, just providing principles of opening for them to enjoying the new opening. Depending on games by games, then children can improve their chess skills by practices.

  • Understanding basic rule and objectives of chess
  • Concentration, carefulness and persistence, patience (playing till the end, and do not quitting games even loosing queen or in the middle of the game)
  • Imagination and visualization in chess board without touching in pieces.
  • Learning how to calculate 2-3 moves in advances.

  • Getting familiar with chess clock and professional style of chess players.

Depending on personality and characteristics of the children (introvert or extrovert), then teachers will guide and observe carefully to coach children best in chess and life.

In this level, we focus on building the right way of learning chess for children. In psychological aspect, they will be able to play against any players without being fear of losing. In chess, they can experience the right approach to chess.

Intermediate level (Passed the Entrance test, Recommended by Teacher/Coach) (Batch 2-4) (Rated 1200-1400 in chess.com: Class B)

Objectives:

In this level, we mainly focus on improving children’s skills from basic to

Enhancing Observation skills from sky to insects, from general to details in a chess board.

Get acquainted of goal settings, planning and taking actions

Improving calculation skills and viewing real chess situations and patterns.

More proactive and confident in decision making, deep thinking and carefulness.

Taking minor advantages and combination of chess pieces leading a winning game with confident, professional style and fighting for all games.

Understanding basic and dynamic openings.

  • Reviewing, and revising basic concepts of openings and fundamental knowledge in chess.
  • Improving calculation and imagination, visualization skills,
  • Get acquainted with basic chess patterns and thematic positions
  • Combinations of chess pieces and gaining concepts of advantages (quality and quantity, area, spaces and pieces).
  • Analysis and applications in real games
  • Basic planning and approaches to attacking and defending.
  • Weak and strong squares in the boards and positional analysis
  • How to exchange pieces and gain benefits from the exchange.
  • Some Basic openings and ending concepts and endings
  • Making Questions before moves and leading next patterns
  • Strong and Weak Bishops
  • Strong and Weak Knight
  • Attacking same catsling or opposited castling

Advanced levels (Qualified to participate in District/City Competition/Tournament)

(Passed the Entrance test, Recommended by Teacher/Coach) (Batch 4-8) (Rated 1400 – 2000 in chess.com: Class C)

  • Basic tactics
  • Positional Analysis and strategic planning for different fundamental positions in middle games.
  • Evaluating the positions by pointing out the strengths and weaknesses in the positions, how to maximize the benefits from good pieces/squares and minimize positional mistakes children can make.
  • Get benefit through the transition from middle games to endings.
  • Detailed:
    • Focus on positional play.Pawn structures and how to
    • How to come up with new ideas through playing in middle games.
